In the heart of Gorontalo, the farmers of Sari Tani once faced declining cocoa harvests and the loss of their forests. Many shifted to corn after pest outbreaks, leaving cocoa behind. But with renewed passion and support from community programs, cocoa has returned—not only as an income source, but as a symbol of resilience.
By practicing agroforestry and intercropping, farmers now cultivate cocoa alongside diverse plants and shade trees, protecting water sources and restoring balance to the land. Traditional fermentation and drying methods are combined with collective knowledge, creating beans that are both rich in flavor and rooted in sustainability.
Every bar of Sari Tani Cocoa carries the impact of this journey. It supports over 300 farming families, nurtures biodiversity near the Nantu Wildlife Sanctuary, and proves that sustainable farming can bring prosperity while protecting the environment for generations to come.
From the once-barren lands of Sari Tani, farmers stood together to bring life back through cocoa. What began as a struggle against pests and hardship has grown into a movement of over 300 farmers who plant, ferment, and harvest with hope. Every bean tells a story of dignity, community, and a promise to the forest.

Farmers in Sari Tani harvest cocoa only when pods turn golden, ensuring peak ripeness. Beans are fermented in simple woven baskets or sacks for 5–6 days, then sun-dried depending on the weather.
Through agroforestry, cocoa trees are intercropped with other plants, nourished by natural shade, and supported by sustainable practices that restore the soil and water balance.
