The farmers of Canggal village were trapped, relying on a tobacco crop that left them in debt and their land bare. They needed a way to protect their families and their home.
Led by Jayein Kurniawan, the community found a solution in coffee. They began replanting the empty mountain slopes with coffee trees, turning their farms into a force for conservation. This simple change transformed their lives.
By planting coffee, the farmers secured a stable income and a healthier environment. Their village is now a model of sustainability, proving that protecting nature and growing a business go hand-in-hand.
In Canggal village, the community’s way of life is deeply connected to nature and tradition, shown by their ancient water management system and annual thanksgiving ceremony. They are now revitalizing their economy and environment by replanting barren land with coffee, which helps protect the slopes and provides a new source of income.
