This book is a collection of stories that tells us about indigenous and local communities who were able to develop coping mechanisms and survive the social and ecological impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in their indigenous territories and ICCAs. They have succeeded in undertaking economic activities that not only help during the pandemic but can also be continued as an alternative economic activity in the future. They are indigenous and local groups located in 11 provinces, namely the Special Region of Aceh, West Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, and West Papua.
This book was successfully completed thanks to the talented authors from 16 partner organizations, recipients of Funding Grants from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Program (SGP) Indonesia through The Global Support Initiative for Indigenous Peoples and Community–Conserved Territories and Area (ICCA-GSI) for COVID-19 Response, to support capacity building and assistance to indigenous peoples and local communities to foster community independence in creating short-term coping mechanisms with an impact on strengthening the socioecological resilience in the long term.
