A middle-aged mother was busy playing with a knife with a hooked end that she held. Like a skilled dancer, she twirled around and slashed the barrels of karel trees that surrounded her. Occasionally, she blew cigarette smoke into the air. The skilled mother's name was Mrs. Monon. She was a karel tapper who lived in Tempayung Village.

This village is located in the Kotawaringin Lama District, Kotawaringin Barat Regency, Central Kalimantan. Tempayung Village is remote and secluded, bordered by the Suaka Margasatwa Sungai Lamandau (SMSL) and surrounded by oil palm plantations. To reach this village, it takes a four-hour journey from Pangkalan Bun, the capital of Kotawaringin Barat Regency, using a speedboat followed by a rented motorcycle or motorcycle taxi.
