NARASISULSEL.com | Bulukumba – Among the groves of towering trees and the gurgling of fast flowing water, Dana Mitra Tani (DMT) Bulukumba again greeted the fertile land with burning enthusiasm during its visit, precisely to Bajiminasa village, Rilau Ale subdistrict, Bulukumba district, on Sunday, March 3 2024.
Accompanied by the boisterous voices of the farmers of Bajiminasa Village, DMT entered the sugar palm plantations which are the pride of this region. However, this time their visit was not just to enjoy the green scenery, but to plant hope for the future, namely by planting several palm trees in the area.
In Bajiminasa Village, Rilau Ale District, Bulukumba Regency, DMT and farmers enthusiastically planted trees that protect the environment, trees that are familiar to the local community, namely palm trees.
Sri Puswandi, Chair of DMT Bulukumba, confidently emphasized that palm trees are not only an economic resource, but also an important ecological balance.
” In an era that continues to change and is threatened by climate change, the presence of palm trees is like a ray of hope in the midst of darkness. “They not only provide economic results, but are also at the forefront in storing carbon and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby greening the surrounding environment and minimizing the impact of climate change,” he said.
DMT’s steps in encouraging farmers to maintain and care for sugar palm trees not only support economic aspects, but also make a positive contribution to ecology and climate change in the Balangtieng watershed area.
Through the Sugar Palm Farmer Assistance Program in the Balangtieng Watershed Area which is supported by GEF-SGP, the Environmental Business Development Foundation, Balang Institute, and UNDP, DMT has proven that together, we can preserve nature. And on that day, the spirit to green the earth flourished in the hearts of all those present.
