Gorontalo City, InfoPublik – Woman Institute for Research and Empowerment of Gorontalo (WIRE-G), Green Leadership Indonesia and the people of Pangahu Village held a commemoration of Patriotic Day 23 January and World Million Tree Movement Day in Buyuo Hamlet, Pangahu Village, Asparaga District, Gorontalo Regency, Tuesday ( 1/23/2024).

The patriotic event of January 23 1942 was an important moment for the declaration of Indonesian Independence which was carried out by the people of Gorontalo with the character Nani Wartabone, a farmer from Suwawa Gorontalo, this event occurred long before the Proclamation of Independence on August 17 1945.

“The value of patriotic events is Patriotism, this very fundamental value has shaped the history, culture and identity of the nation. “Patriotism is considered a valuable asset for building a spirit of togetherness, unity, and motivating individuals to play an active role in building a better society,” said Puput Pakaya, Chair of the Committee, who was accompanied by Zulfikar Niode, secretary of the committee.

Puput explained that this activity was a collaboration between WIRE-G, Green Leadership Indonesia and the people of Pangahu Village to maintain the values of the struggle to uphold the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). The theme of this activity to commemorate Patriotic Day and World Million Tree Movement Day is You, Our Country, Take Care of the Earth.

This activity was attended by local governments, universities, journalists, elementary and middle school students, village communities, youth organizations, nature lovers communities, arts and culture literacy activists, and others.

Meanwhile, the Director of WIRE-G, Kusmawaty Matara, explained that the aim of this activity was to invite all elements to foster a patriotic spirit and attitude to act and contribute to environmental preservation, increase awareness and take responsibility together for nature, ecosystems and good biodiversity.

“And as a response to illegal logging in forests, land conversion, global warming and destruction of other natural resources,” said Kusmawaty Matara.

A number of activities were held in commemoration of Patriotic Day and World Million Tree Movement Day, including planting trees on critical land, socializing household waste management and making biopores, environmental literacy with Village Schools, screening of environmentally themed short films, Sustainable yard competitions, performances traditional arts such as the dana-dana dance, Gorontalo language rhymes, gambus and marwas performances, and poetry readings.
