Thematic priority 2 of 5

Sustainable Agriculture, Fisheries, And Food Security

SDG 2: Zero HungerSDG 12: Responsible Consumption and ProductionSDG 14: Life Below Water

Theme overview

Village food supplies are insecure because they depend on outside supply and on a single crop vulnerable to extreme weather. Product value-added is low because post-harvest tools and technology are limited.

Aligned with: Presidential Regulation 66/2021 on the National Food Agency · Food system priorities of the 2025–2029 RPJMN (revitalizing local food and diversifying agriculture)

2.1

Revitalizing local food systems

Main problem

In the early 1990-an, about 70% of 8–9 million hectares of rice fields in Indonesia were planted with a single variety, IR64. In 1998–1999 leaf blight, tungro virus, and brown planthoppers attacked those fields. The loss of local varieties threatens long-term food security.
